Vimovo instruction manual
Vimovo is a unique complex drug for the treatment of abnormalities of the opio - motor apparatus, containing, in addition to the nonsteroidal anti - inflammatory component, a drug that suppresses the secretion of gastric juice.
Form of release and composition:
The drug is released in the form of oval, enteric-coated tablets of yellow color. On one side of the tablets there is an inscription in black font "500/20".
One tablet contains:
- 500 mg naproxen;
- 22.3 mg of esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate, which corresponds to
20 mg of esomeprazole.
Auxiliary components: povidone K90, triethyl citrate, croscarmellose sodium, polysorbate 80, glycerin monostearate, silicon colloidal dioxide, methylparahydroxybenzoate, magnesium stearate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, hypromellose, methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate copolymer (1: 1), macrogol 8000, titanium dioxide, suspension 30% , Polydextrose, hypromellose 6 mPas, hypromellose 50 mPas, carnauba wax, iron oxide yellow, black ink (Opacode black).
The tablets are packed in 6, 10, 30 or 60 pieces in a plastic bottle with a screw cap with the control of the first opening. The bottle is in a cardboard box with instructions for medical use.
Mechanism of action:
A special form of production of tablets allows you to consistently deliver the components of the drug in the necessary parts of the gastrointestinal tract. The Vimovo tablet shell contains immediate-release esomeprazole magnesium, which causes the substance to act almost immediately after it enters the stomach.
In the core of the tablet is naproxen, hidden under an enteric-soluble shell with sustained release. As a result, naproxen begins to be absorbed into the bloodstream only in the small intestine. The special release of Vimovo's active components minimizes the adverse effects of naproxen on the gastric mucosa.
Naproxen is a representative of a group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agents. The properties of this component of Vimovo allow to reduce or completely get rid of pain in the joints and muscles, reduce the manifestation of the inflammatory process. Naproxen significantly reduces the morning stiffness and swelling of the joints, contributes to an increase in the volume of movements.
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. The proton pump in the human body is responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The use of drugs from a group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as naproxen, adversely affects the internal surface of the stomach, causing irritation, erosion, gastritis and ulcers. Esomeprazole blocks the production of hydrochloric acid, which reduces the irritant effect on the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract.
Indications for use:
Vimovo is used to relieve pain in people who have an increased risk of developing gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer in the following pathologies of the musculoskeletal system:
- Individual intolerance to esomeprazole, naproxen, benzimidazole derivatives, and other components included in the formulation;
- Children and adolescence under 18;
- Bronchial asthma, urticaria ;
- Tendency to bleeding;
- Excess content of total potassium in the body (hyperkalemia);
- Pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
- Exacerbation of peptic ulcer of the stomach, duodenum;
- Inflammatory bowel disease in acute phase;

Simultaneous use of Vimovo with corticosteroids for internal use, acetylsalicylic acid, diuretics increases the risk of exacerbation of cardiovascular pathologies.
Predisposition to diseases of the digestive system increases the likelihood of developing negative side effects. In elderly patients, the risk of complications after using the drug is also increased.
Reducing the level of acidity can have an adverse effect on the barrier function of the stomach. Increases the likelihood of intestinal infections. In addition, a prolonged change in the pH of the stomach to the neutral side can lead to the growth of benign tumors.
Since Vimovo can cause dizziness, visual impairment and hearing, special care should be taken to use the drug in individuals whose activities are related to the management of transport and work requiring increased attention.
Elevated doses of Vimovo can provoke drowsiness, dizziness, pain in the epigastric region, gastric bleeding, stopping breathing, vomiting. Specific antidote does not exist for the treatment of drug overdose. In case of poisoning, you must induce vomiting, take a laxative and enterosorbents.
