A medicinal preparation for internal use, possessing a secreto-motor (stimulating expectoration) and secretolitic action. Liquefies, increases volume and facilitates excretion of sputum to be separated. Preserves activity in the presence of mucopurulent mucolytic secretions.
The mechanism of action of effervescent tablets Vix Active is based on the ability of sulfide groups of an active ingredient to break the disulfide bonds of acid mucopolysaccharides of sputum. As a consequence, mucoproteins are depolarized and the mucus viscosity decreases.
Under the influence of acetylcysteine, the synthesis of glutathione (an important antioxidant factor of intracellular defense supporting the functional activity and morphological integrity of the cell) is enhanced. At the same time, this substance has an antioxidant effect, suppresses the formation of free radicals and active oxygen-containing substances that promote the development of inflammation in the lung tissue.
Effervescent tablets Wicks Active are well absorbed from the digestive tract. Because of the initial passage through the liver, the absolute bioavailability of the drug is reduced by 10%. The maximum concentration in blood plasma reaches in 1-3 hours. Acetylcysteine is able to penetrate the placenta and accumulate in the amniotic fluid.
In the process of metabolism breaks down into cysteine, ciacetistine, cystine and disulfides. It is excreted as inactive metabolites by the kidneys. A small part is allocated together with the calves.
In patients with impaired liver function, the maximum concentration of the active ingredient in the blood plasma is observed after 8 hours.
