Candles Viferon is a powerful immunostimulating agent with a pronounced antiviral effect.
Form of formulation and composition of the preparation
The drug Viferon is available in the form of suppositories intended for administration to the rectum. Suppositories white or yellowish color, oblong with sharp tip on one side.
Each candle contains active active substance - human recombinant interferon 150,000 IU, 500,000 IU, 1,000,000 IU or 3,000,000 IU, as well as auxiliary components: alpha-tocopherol acetate, polysorbate, cocoa butter, fat, ascorbic acid.
Candles are packed in a cardboard box in 5 or 10 pieces.
Pharmacological properties of the preparation
The main active component of suppositories is human interferon, which has a powerful immunostimulating and antiviral effect.
Interferon, when it enters the common bloodstream, promotes the activation of protective forces and the recognition of pathogenic pathogens by macrophage cells.

- ARVI or complications against the background of not timely begun therapy of a viral infection.

The drug Viferon is not prescribed to patients with an individual intolerance to the components of the suppository, as well as to pregnant women in the first trimester.
Dosing and Administration
Suppositories are intended for rectal use. Depending on the age, body weight, indications and individual characteristics of the body, patients are prescribed a certain daily dose of the drug.
According to the instruction for the complex treatment of intrauterine infections and other pathologies in newborns or premature babies born after 34 weeks of gestation, 1 suppository is prescribed per rectum with a dosage of 150,000 IU twice a day for 5-7 days. Premature babies who were born before 34 pregnancies for the prevention and treatment of intrauterine infection and complicated pneumonia are prescribed 1 candle rectally once a day with a dosage of 150,000 IU. The duration of the course of therapy is at least 5 days.
For some infections in newborns and premature babies, 2 courses of therapy are needed at intervals of 5 days. That is, the drug is used for 5 days, followed by 5 days of interruption, after which again 5 days of treatment with Viferon. Such infections include: chlamydia , cytomegalovirus , pneumonia, acute respiratory viral infection, complicated viral diseases, candidiasis, meningitis, herpes.
In the complex therapy of hepatitis B, C and D chronic viral hepatitis, 1 suppository is given rectally once a day with a dosage of 500,000 IU, children up to 6 months with 1 candle twice a day with a dosage of 150,000 IU. The duration of the course of therapy is determined by the physician in a strictly individual order, depending on the blood test results.
Adult patients with viral hepatitis of chronic course are prescribed 1 suppository rectally 2 times a day with a dosage of 3 million IU. The duration of the course of therapy is at least 10 days, then the dose is reduced under the supervision of a doctor and depending on the parameters of the blood picture.
In the complex therapy for various urogenital infections (chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, trichomoniasis, gardrenellosis, mycoplasmosis, vaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis), patients are prescribed 1 suppository rectally 2 times a day with a dosage of 500,000 IU or once a day with a dosage of 1,000,000 IU. The duration of treatment is at least 5 days. If necessary, you can undergo a second course of therapy with an interval of 5 days. During the period of therapy of urogenital infections, sexual contact should be avoided.
With herpetic infection, including genital herpes, patients are prescribed as part of the complex therapy of Viferon suppository 2 times a day with a dosage of 1,000,000 IU. It is important to understand that the earlier treatment begins, the higher the therapeutic effect of the drug will be with respect to herpes viruses.
In acute viral infections, including influenza and parainfluenza, patients are prescribed 1 suppository rectally 2 times a day with a dosage of 500,000 IU for 5-7 days. Children over 1 year are prescribed 1 candle per rectum with a dosage of 150,000 IU twice a day.
Use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Candles Viferon with any dosage of interferon are allowed for use by pregnant women not earlier than 14 weeks. Until then, the use of the drug is contraindicated in the absence of reliable data on the safety of the active ingredients on the development of the fetus and the course of pregnancy. Starting from the 14th week of pregnancy, the daily dose of the drug and the length of the course of therapy are determined by the doctor, depending on the indications and individual characteristics of the organism of the pregnant woman.

The drug Viferon is well tolerated by patients, however, with individual hypersensitivity to the components of the suppository, the following side effects may develop:
