Ventolin Nebula for inhalation: instruction
- Ventolin Nebula for inhalation: instruction
Pharmacotherapeutic group : selective b-2 adrenomimetic (a drug that selectively stimulates b-2 adrenoreceptors).
Dosage form : aerosol for inhalation.
Form release : transparent colorless or light yellow liquid, polyethylene ampoules, a package of aluminum foil, laminated with polyethylene, cardboard bundle.
Drug, selective b2-adrenoreceptor antagonist, in therapeutic doses acting on b2 bronchial smooth muscle adrenoreceptors.
Active ingredient :
Auxiliary components :
- sodium chloride;
- diluted sulfuric acid;
- purified water.
The active component of the drug for a long time has an inhibitory effect on histamine, prostaglandin D2, leukotrienes and other biologically active substances. Able to inhibit early and late bronchial activity. It has a pronounced bronchodilating effect, suppresses or prevents the development of bronchospasm, increases lung capacity, reduces resistance in the airways. In chronic bronchitis by 36% increases mucociliary clearance, activates the function of ciliated epithelium, stimulates the secretion of mucus.
Under the influence of salbutamol, the release of inflammatory mediators is inhibited, with genetic susceptibility to the disease, antigen-dependent suppression of mucociliary transport and the release of chemotaxis factors causing targeted migration of inflammatory cells are eliminated. Able to reduce the concentration of potassium in the blood plasma, has an effect on insulin secretion and glycogenolysis, lipolytic and hyperglycemic effect, increases the risk of developing acidosis. It causes expansion of the coronary arteries, has a positive chronotropic and ionotropic effect.
After inhalation use, about 10–20% of the active ingredient reaches the respiratory tract. The rest of the solution remains in the delivery device, or settles on the walls of the nasopharynx, and then swallowed. The dose reached the respiratory tract is not metabolized in the lungs, but is adsorbed into the tissue of the respiratory organs and absorbed into the bloodstream. The drug begins to act within 4-5 minutes after the procedure of inhalation (maximum - in 30-90 minutes). Duration of action is 4-6 hours. Sucking into the systemic circulation, Ventolin Nebula is metabolized in the liver. It is released in the form of a phenolsulfate metabolite and unchanged. 69-90% is excreted by the kidneys, 4% by the intestines, along with bile. The maximum dose is displayed within 72 hours.
Communication with plasma proteins is 10%. Active component (salbutamol) is able to penetrate the placental barrier.

Dosage and administration
Ventolin Nebula is a drug for inhalation. Its use involves the use of a nebulizer (a special inhaler equipped with a mask and endotracheal tube). According to medical indications artificial ventilation with intermittent positive pressure can be used. If there is a risk of hypoxia resulting from hypoventilation, the inhaled air is enriched with oxygen.
The drug for inhalation is used undiluted. However, with prolonged administration (more than 10 minutes) it is recommended to dilute it with sterile saline. The solution remaining in the nebulizer chamber, at the end of the procedure should be poured. Inhalation should be carried out in well ventilated areas.
The average initial dose for adults and children is 2.5 mg. If necessary, it can be increased to 5 mg. Inhalation is recommended 4 times a day. For patients with severe airway obstruction, the dose may be increased to 40 mg per day. In this situation, the procedures should be carried out under strict medical supervision, in a hospital.
During pregnancy and lactation, Ventolin Nebula is indicated for use only if the expected benefit from its use exceeds the risk of exposure to the fetus.
Due to the fact that there is evidence of the possibility of salbutamol penetration into breast milk, inhalation during lactation is not recommended. An exception is also the case when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the child.
- Light tremor of skeletal muscles (especially hands);
- Slight increase in heart rate;
- Peripheral vasodilation;
- Tachycardia ;
- Muscle cramps ;
- Skin reactions (hyperemia of the skin, itching, urticaria , angioedema);
- Hypotension, collapse (in very rare cases);
- Paradoxical bronchospasm;
- Increased motor activity and mental arousal (in children);
- Extrasystole, subventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation (in patients with a predisposition).
Ventolin Nebula is not recommended for use in combination with MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) and with non-selective blockers of b-adrenoreceptors.
The most characteristic symptoms of an overdose of an active component include metabolic disorders, tremor of the upper limbs, hyperactivity, hypoglycemia, tachycardia. In rare cases, lactic acidosis may develop.
