Ventolin Nebulas for inhalations: instructions
- Ventolin Nebulas for inhalations: instructions
Pharmacotherapeutic group : selective b-2 adrenomimetic (a drug that selectively stimulates b-2 adrenergic receptors).
Dosage form : aerosol for inhalation.
Product : transparent colorless or light yellow liquid, polyethylene ampoules, aluminum foil bag, laminated with polyethylene, cardboard tutu.
The drug, a selective antagonist of b2-adrenergic receptors, in therapeutic doses acting on b2 adrenoreceptors of smooth muscles of the bronchi.
Active substance :
Auxiliary components :
- sodium chloride;
- Diluted sulfuric acid;
- purified water.
The active ingredient of the drug for a long time has an inhibitory effect on histamine, prostaglandin D2, leukotrienes and other biologically active substances. It can suppress early and late bronchial activity. Has a pronounced bronchodilator effect, it stops or prevents the development of bronchospasm, increases the vital capacity of the lungs, reduces resistance in the respiratory tract. In chronic bronchitis, the mucociliary clearance increases by 36%, activates the function of the ciliated epithelium, stimulates the secretion of mucus.
Under the influence of salbutamol, the release of inflammatory mediators is inhibited, with the genetic predisposition to the disease, antigen-dependent suppression of mucociliary transport and the release of chemotaxis factors causing directional migration of inflammatory cells are eliminated. It is able to reduce the concentration of potassium in the blood plasma, affects the release of insulin and glycogenolysis, lipolytic and hyperglycemic effect, increases the risk of acidosis. Calls for the expansion of the coronary arteries, has a positive chronotropic and ionotropic effect.
After inhalation use, about 10-20% of the active ingredient reaches the airways. The rest of the solution remains in the delivery device, or settles on the walls of the nasopharynx, and then is swallowed. The dose reaching the airways is not metabolized in the lungs, but absorbed into the tissue of the respiratory organs and absorbed into the bloodstream. The drug begins to act 4-5 minutes after the inhalation procedure (maximum - after 30-90 minutes). The duration of action is 4-6 hours. Absorbed into the systemic circulation, Ventolin Nebula is metabolized in the liver. It is released in the form of a phenol sulfate metabolite and unchanged. 69-90% is excreted by the kidneys, 4% by the intestines, together with bile. The maximum dose is displayed within 72 hours.
The connection with plasma proteins is 10%. The active ingredient (salbutamol) is able to penetrate the placental barrier.

Dosing and Administration
Ventolin Nebula is a preparation for inhalation. Its use involves the use of a nebulizer (a special inhaler equipped with a mask and an endotracheal tube). For medical reasons, artificial ventilation with alternating positive pressure may be used. If there is a risk of hypoxia, which is a consequence of hypoventilation, the inhaled air is enriched with oxygen.
The drug for inhalations is used in undiluted form. However, with prolonged administration (more than 10 minutes), it is recommended to dilute it with sterile saline. The solution remaining in the nebulizer chamber should be poured out at the end of the procedure. Inhalation should be carried out in well-ventilated areas.
The average initial dose of the drug for adults and children is 2.5 mg. If necessary, it can be increased to 5 mg. Inhalation is recommended 4 times a day. For patients with severe airway obstruction, the dose may be increased to 40 mg per day. In this situation, procedures should be performed under strict medical supervision, in a stationary setting.
During pregnancy and lactation, Ventolin Nebula is indicated for use only if the expected benefit from its use exceeds the risk of exposure to the fetus.
In connection with the fact that there are data on the possibility of salbutamol penetration into breast milk, it is not recommended to perform inhalations during lactation. An exception is also the case when the expected benefit for the mother exceeds the potential risk for the child.
- Light tremor of skeletal muscles (especially of the hands);
- Slight increase in heart rate;
- Expansion of peripheral vessels;
- Tachycardia ;
- Muscle cramps ;
- Skin reactions (flushing of the skin, itching, hives , angioedema);
- Arterial hypotension, collapse (in very rare cases);
- Parodoxical bronchospasm;
- Increased motor activity and mental arousal (in children);
- Extrasystolia, subventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation (in patients with a predisposition).
Ventolin Nebula is not recommended for use in combination with MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) and with nonselective b-adrenergic blockers.
The most characteristic symptoms of an overdose of an active ingredient include metabolic disorders, tremor of the upper extremities, hyperactivity, hypoglycemia, tachycardia. In rare cases, the development of lactic acidosis is possible.
