The drug Valsartan is a drug whose therapeutic effect is to normalize blood pressure and improve the performance of the organs of the cardiovascular system.
Form of formulation and composition of the preparation
Valsartan is available in the form of tablets for oral administration. Each tablet is covered with a protective film coat of pink color and contains the main active ingredient valsartan in the amount of 40,80 or 160 mg.
In each tablet there are also auxiliary components - magnesium sterate, microcrystalline cellulose, pink dye.
Preparta Valsartan is intended for oral administration. After the tablet enters the digestive canal, rapid absorption of the main active components through the mucous membranes into the common bloodstream occurs. The drug affects the receptors of AT1 angiotensin 2, which are located in the vascular endothelium, kidney tissue, heart muscle, lung tissue, adrenal cortex and brain.
The therapeutic effect after a single pill intake is developed and becomes maximum after 2 hours. The active components of the drug reduce the hypertrophy of the heart muscle, which often develops against a background of persistent increase in blood pressure. Already 3 weeks after the regular use of tablets, patients notice a significant improvement in general condition, normalization of blood pressure indicators, not only in a state of complete rest, but also under physical stress. In patients with chronic heart failure, edema of the face and lower extremities decreases, and the risk of developing post-infarct complications is significantly reduced.
Indications for use of the drug
Valsartan tablets are prescribed to patients for the treatment and prevention of the following conditions:
- The initial stages of hypertension with a persistent increase in blood pressure;
- Acute myocardial infarction;
- Heart failure with stagnant processes.
This drug, according to the instructions, is not recommended to patients for treatment in the presence of the following conditions:
- Individual intolerance of the components included in the formulation;
- Pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;

Method of administration and dosage
Valsartan tablets are indicated for oral administration. The drug should be taken regardless of food, swallowing, but not chewing and grinding. Tablets should be washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid.
The dosage of the drug and the length of the course of therapy are determined by the attending physician depending on the diagnosis and individual characteristics of the patient's body.
According to the instructions, patients with hypertension are prescribed 80 mg per day. If necessary and the presence of a strong indication of the daily dose the doctor can increase, but this happens gradually only in the absence of therapeutic effect from the lowest effective dose.
After myocardial infarction, patients in the first hours are prescribed 40 mg of the drug 2 times a day. Within 3 months, this dose is gradually increased to 320 mg per day. If the patient's blood pressure is significantly reduced in the background of therapy, the dosage is corrected.
Use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Valsartan tablets are not prescribed for the treatment of pregnant women because of the risk to the fetus. If the woman took the drug and during this period became pregnant, it should be stopped as soon as possible and go to the doctor, in some cases, the pregnancy has to be interrupted.
The use of this medication during breastfeeding is prohibited because of the high probability of penetration of active ingredients into breast milk, and then into the baby's body. If it is necessary to treat Valsartan, a lactating woman will have to stop lactation.

With the goal of normalizing blood pressure indicators, intravenous sodium isotonic solution is possible.
Interaction with medicinal products
With the simultaneous use of Valsartan with diuretics, the patient's risk of hyperkalemia increases dramatically. The same happens with the simultaneous use of potassium preparations.
With the simultaneous use of this drug with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, patients may experience a decrease in the therapeutic effect of Valsartan and worsening kidney function.
With simultaneous use with other drugs that lower blood pressure, the risk of hypotension and loss of consciousness increases.
Since at first, against the background of drug therapy, the patient often has dizziness and drowsiness, it is necessary to avoid driving vehicles and controlling complex mechanisms that require quick reaction.

The medicine is dispensed in pharmacies according to the doctor's prescription. Shelf life of the tablets is 3 years from the date of production, which is indicated on the package. The drug should be stored out of reach of children at a temperature of not more than 30 degrees.
