Where are the lymph nodes in humans?

Lymph nodes are an important part of the lymphatic system of the human body and are involved in the production of antibodies and cells involved in the immune system. Long since the state of the lymph nodes, doctors have been able to judge the presence of an inflammatory process in the patient's body, since they are the first to respond to the penetration of the infection.

The location of the lymph nodes

Where are the lymph nodes Many people far from medicine are concerned with the question - where are the lymph nodes? In fact, the human body has an average of from 450 to 1000 lymph nodes, they are located throughout the body in small clusters, mainly in the foci of passage of the main blood vessels. The largest nodes that are the first to respond to the presence of infection in the body are the cervical lymph nodes, axillary and inguinal.

In normal size of lymph nodes varies from 1 to 2 cm, painless to the touch. With disease, the size of the nodes increases, and the patient may experience painful sensations during palpation.

Each lymph node is responsible for the health of the organs located near it, which allows the doctor to suggest exactly where the inflammatory process is located. For example, an increase and tenderness of the cervical lymph nodes may indicate the presence of an inflammatory process in the brain or neck (sore throats, pharyngitis and others). An enlarged lymph node in the groin indicates the development of an inflammatory process in the pelvic organs.

Inflammation of the lymph nodes

When inflammation of the lymph nodes, doctors talk about lymphadenitis. The main cause of inflammation of the lymph nodes is the penetration of pathogenic microflora into the human body, which with the blood and lymph flows freely to the internal organs. As a rule, the inflammatory process is most often caused by staphylococci and streptococci.

Lymphadenitis is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • fever;
  • headaches;
  • pain and aching muscles;
  • nausea;
  • general weakness and lethargy.

The severity of the clinical picture depends largely on how pronounced the pathological process. In ordinary lymphadenitis, the inflammatory process is localized only in a certain node, which can sometimes suppurate.

In destructive lymphadenitis, the inflammatory process may extend beyond the node and spread to nearby internal organs. With the progression of such a pathological process in most cases, complications such as thrombophlebitis and fistula occur.

It is important to understand that in case of inflammation of the lymph nodes, it is necessary to consult a doctor as soon as possible and in no case be self-medicated. Lymphadenitis can be one of the manifestations of oncology, so it is very important to timely identify and treat pathology.

As a rule, when detecting an inflammatory process in the lymph nodes associated with the penetration of pathogenic bacteria into the body, the patient is prescribed a course of broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. If pus is found in the nodes, the patient is opened with a pathological focus, and then the lymph node is drained.

Causes of lymphadenopathy

Sometimes the lymph nodes may grow in size. This condition contributes to a number of reasons:

  • Infectious processes in the body - carious teeth damage, acute viral infections, gum inflammation, tonsillitis , pneumonia, tuberculosis .
  • Cancer - often just an increase in regional lymph nodes can serve as the first clinical symptom of cancer in the body.
  • Insect bites - an increase in lymph nodes in this case is observed in individuals prone to allergic reactions.

Cancer of the lymph nodes

Cancer of the lymph nodes is the most serious disease and develops as a result of exposure to the body of carcinogens, which lead to mutation of cells and their further transformation into atypical ones. One of the varieties of oncology of the lymphatic system is lymphogranulomatosis, a disease characterized by the defeat of one lymph node first, the rapid progression of pathology and the formation of metastases in adjacent nodes and near organs.

Lymph node treatment

Many people who have enlarged lymph nodes are not in a hurry to visit the doctor and are trying to self-medicate by applying warm heating pads and heat compresses. It is important to understand that conducting thermal procedures is absolutely contraindicated! Swollen lymph nodes can be caused by severe inflammation and even suppuration, and heat promotes the spread of pus and pathogenic bacteria throughout the body.

Depending on the cause, which caused the pain, swelling and swollen lymph nodes, the patient is prescribed treatment: these may be antibiotics, a course of radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Regardless of the cause of the pathological process, the patient must be prescribed vitamins and immunomodulators.

Fitore Bilalli: I'm a 14 year old child and I do have this . I went to the doctor and did all the procedures , MRI and those kind of things . Now I'm waiting when the doctor will call me to go to be operated , to say the truth I was scared as hell . But after I watched this video now I'm not afraid like I was . Since the wound is closed by putting from outside those stitches or sticks (Idk how to call them) , it isn't any danger , right ?

Francislilygirl Gaming YT: Is it a good sign if the lymph node is a bit smaller now cause I had a swollen lymph node for a few weeks but now it’s smaller now,Before it was small but now it’s smaller

Jack erez: My dad had Non-hotchkins. I’ve had a lymph node on my neck my whole life, and the doctors have never said anything about the lymph node being bad. I still have anxiety about possibly having cancer, though. Occasionally I get new lymph nodes on my neck as well. So... yeah scary stuff.

L Ace: I have this moveable ball near the end of my jawline and near the neck idk what its call but its not this lymph node shit

dead seize: Man i don't have enough money to do the surgery and all the stuffs... My neck lumps are kinda painful and same as throat

Melissa LaRose: 😭💙💙💙👉👉 I came back to comment for everyone's sake: **GO TO A MEDICAL DOCTOR** have a blood test immediately!!! I just had the worst few days, my poor little baby son was just diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, he has received many bags of blood and platelets among other things through the weekend to get his levels to lower them from off the chart numbers. He had a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap pick port installed, and first round of chemo directly into spinal cord yesterday. We are in our new "home" for his treatment because we can not leave, which will be months to? ...there's a lot more but I want everyone to read this so I don't want it to be too long! Dont wait, it's no big deal to go have a blood test, it eliminates worry and if there is something wrong it's best to know asap so you have a better chance of survival. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME, as I sit here next to my very sick son in a hematology oncology hospital after being rushed here by ambulance Friday night. 😭😭😭😫😫
