Release form and composition
The syrup contains the active ingredient bromhexine hydrochloride. Per 100 ml of the drug it will be 80 mg. As additional excipients, Bromhexin syrup contains:
- propylene glycol;
- non-crystallizing sorbidol solution;
- sodium benzoate;
- flavoring additive;
- citric acid;
- purified water.

Indications for use
Bromhexin syrup is prescribed for the following diseases, which are characterized by the formation of a viscous difficult to separate secretion:

- cystic fibrosis.

Dosing and Administration
You should know that a teaspoon of 5 ml of the drug contains 4 mg of the active substance - Bromhexine hydrochloride.
Children under 6 years old appoint 5 ml of syrup three times a day. This amount is 12 mg of active ingredient per day.
Children 6-14 years of age, as well as patients whose weight is less than 50 kg, 10 ml of syrup is prescribed three times a day. This is equal to 24 mg of bromhexna hydrochloride.
Children over 14 and adults are prescribed 10–20 ml of Bromhexine three times a day. This amount is 24 mg of active ingredient per day.
For patients with severe renal or hepatic insufficiency, the dose should be reduced by a doctor.
The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease and is set individually in each case.
Syrup is taken after a meal, washed down with plenty of liquid.
Usually, Bromhexine syrup is well tolerated and patients are not worried about any undesirable effects. However, in rare cases, manifestations of dyspepsia, vomiting, nausea, exacerbations of duodenal ulcer and stomach, increased levels of hepatic trasaminase in the blood, allergic reactions, headache and dizziness are possible.
During the entire course of treatment with Bromhexin syrup, it is necessary to take a residual amount of fluid. This measure increases the expectorant properties of the active substance.
To facilitate the removal of mucus from the bronchi, children are recommended to perform a vibratory massage of the chest or postural drainage.
Patients with a history of gastric bleeding and a peptic ulcer should take the drug under the supervision of a physician.
Bromhexine hydrochloride passes into breast milk, so it cannot be used during lactation. If such a measure is necessary, breastfeeding should be stopped, and resumed after a course of treatment.
There is no information about the embryotoxic or teratogenic effect of Bromhexin syrup on the fetus. Therefore, the use of this drug during pregnancy is not recommended.
There are no practical data on the negative effects of bromhexine hydrochloride on the ability to control machinery and vehicles.
For people with asthma, the drug is prescribed with caution.
Do not use Bromhexine syrup at the same time as drugs that block the cough center (codeine).
This drug is prescribed in combination therapy with herbal preparations containing essential oils (menthol, eucalyptus oil, peppermint, anise).
