Betaloc ZOK belongs to the group of beta-blockers and is used in medicine to normalize the functioning of the cardiovascular system and reduce blood pressure.
Form of formulation and composition of the preparation
The preparation Betaloc ZOK is available in the form of tablets for oral administration. The main active substance of the tablet is metoprolol succinate. Each tablet is white or almost white in color, oval in shape, biconvex with a notch on both sides. The drug is produced in blisters for 14 and 30 pieces, which are packed in a cardboard box.

Due to the fact that the drug has the properties of sustained release of the main active substance, Betaloc ZOK retains its therapeutic effect up to 24 hours.
The use of this drug in patients with hypertension is a persistent decrease in blood pressure, not only in a state of complete rest, but also under physical stress.
With regular long-term administration of the drug tablets, patients note improvement in overall health, a decrease in the severity of clinical symptoms of heart failure, angina pectoris and hypertension.

Method of administration and dosage
The dosage of the drug and the duration of the course of treatment are determined by the doctor strictly individually for each individual patient, taking into account many features of his organism, so that there is no risk of developing bradycardia on the background of drug therapy.
In patients with hypertension, patients are recommended to take 1 Betaloc ZOK tablet 1 time per day, with a daily dosage of the drug should not exceed 50-100 mg.
For the treatment and prevention of angina pectoris, the patient is prescribed no more than 200 mg of the drug per day, depending on the severity of the clinical symptoms of the disease, body weight and other factors.
For the treatment of heart failure with a violation of systolic function of the left ventricle, the drug is allowed to be prescribed to patients only if, during the past 1.5 months, he has not had exacerbations of the condition.
In case of heart rhythm disturbances, Betaloc ZOK tablets are prescribed once a day with a dosage of not more than 100 mg. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor, depending on the severity of the violations.
The prophylactic dose of the drug for preventing migraine or re-infarction of the myocardium is from 100 to 200 mg of Betalok per day.
The tablet is recommended to be taken in the morning after waking up, before breakfast. The drug is not chewed, but immediately swallowed, squeezed with a sufficient amount of liquid.
Patients with kidney or liver dysfunction are individually adjusted for the dose, and the treatment is carried out under the supervision of a doctor.
An overdose of the drug
If the dosage specified by the doctor is not observed and the daily dose of the drug is significantly exceeded, the patient develops overdose symptoms, which can even lead to death in large doses. The most frequent clinical manifestations of an overdose of this drug are:

- Inhibition of breathing, stopping breathing;
- Development of heart failure;
- Nausea and vomiting;

At simultaneous reception Betalok ZOK with alcoholic drinks the probability of development of an overdose by a preparation essentially increases, and its signs can be observed already in 20 minutes after reception of a tablet.
Treatment of an overdose is symptomatic, but more often a patient is simply washed out of the stomach, given to take activated charcoal and left under medical supervision.
When cardiac arrest or breathing is necessary urgently apply resuscitation.
Application of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Betaloc ZOK tablets are not prescribed for the treatment of pregnant women or nursing mothers. Studies have shown that the use of beta-adrenoblockers during pregnancy and lactation can lead to a decrease in blood pressure and the development of bradycardia in the fetus or infants. Before starting therapy, you should consult your doctor and never take self-medication.
As a rule, Betaloc ZOK tablets are well tolerated by patients at the prescribed dose. In rare cases, with individual hypersensitivity to beta-adrenoblockers, the following side effects may develop:

- Rashes on the skin in rare cases, increased sweating.
Interaction of the drug with other drugs
The Betaloc ZOK preparation should not be taken concomitantly with barbiturates because of the high risk of side effects and overdose symptoms.
The simultaneous use of this drug with Amiodarone may lead to the development of sinus bradycardia.
Parallel application of Betalok with a group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can weaken the antihypertensive effect of beta-blockers, which should be taken into account and do not prescribe drugs of these groups simultaneously.
One-time use of Betaloc ZOK with adrenaline resulted in a marked increase in blood pressure values, as described in medicine and pharmacology.
Patients with diabetes who receive therapy with hypoglycemic drugs concurrently with Betaloc ZOK tablets need to adjust the daily dose of diabetic drugs.
With the simultaneous use of tablets with cardiac glycosides, patients may develop a bradycardia in some cases.
It is impossible to sharply cancel treatment with this medication, as this can lead to the development of heart failure. After improving the patient's condition, the doctor gradually reduces the daily dose of Betaloc's tablets.
Patients who are undergoing surgery should be informed to the attending physician that he is taking Betaloc ZOK, as simultaneous use of general anesthesia with this drug increases the risk of bradycardia, a sharp drop in blood pressure and death.
During the treatment with Betaloc ZOK, patients should avoid driving by car or managing complex mechanisms, as beta-blockers in large doses can reduce the concentration of attention.
