The active substance is timolol.
Additional components: water for injection, benzalkonium chloride, (K30).
The drug Arutimol contains the main active substance - timolol. It is used to reduce intraocular pressure in various ophthalmic diseases. The drug is able to reduce pressure in patients with both elevated and normal blood pressure.
The effect of the drug is due to the fact that Arutimol reduces the amount of sodium ions in the most intraocular fluid, which leads to a decrease in pressure.
When using the drug, there was no change in vision or an increase in the pupil. Even with prolonged use, drops do not affect the sensitivity of the retina.
The agent is only partially absorbed into the bloodstream, and the therapeutic effect can be observed after 15-25 minutes. The maximum effect is achieved after 2.5 and last about a day.
For the strongest therapeutic effect, it is recommended to take a 0.5% solution.
Indications for use
This drug is prescribed to reduce intraocular pressure, and with the following diseases for the same purpose:
- secondary glaucoma;
- open glaucoma;
- other types of glaucoma;
- Other ophthalmic diseases, where symptomatology is increased intraocular pressure.
Mode of application
The drug is prescribed depending on the type of disease and its complexity. Standard dosing: 1 drop 2 times a day.
At the beginning of the treatment, 0.25% drops are prescribed, if the therapeutic effect is not observed or is insignificant, then the drug goes 0.5%. When the necessary effect was achieved, the dose is reduced to 1 drop 1 time per day.
The course of treatment with arutimol is long, it is established by the attending physician.
If you missed taking medication, then double the dose should not be.
Before using, it is necessary to turn the cap clockwise to the end, then, make sure that the hole is formed in the dropper, now the preparation is ready for use.

With prolonged use of the drug in large doses, it is possible to develop shortness of breath in patients with bronchial asthma. In more rare cases, tachycardia or arrhythmia may occur. Even less often - heart failure.
From the side of the central nervous system when taking a large dose: drowsiness, fatigue, headaches, sometimes dizziness or nausea.
Do not recommend prescribing to children younger than 16 years, since the risk of side effects is much higher than in children 16-18 years old.
Allergic reactions can also develop in the form of a rash or itching.
If one of the side effects is found, you should cancel the drug and consult your doctor.
The drug should not be administered in the following cases:
- the presence of allergies to one of the components of the drug;
- bronchial asthma;
- diseases of the respiratory tract in acute form;
- rhinitis of an allergic type;
- lesions of orbit;
- Do not prescribe to patients with acute heart disease, diabetes and pulmonary insufficiency;
- with caution should be given to patients with an elevated level of thyroid hormones.
Pregnancy and lactemia
To date, there are no 100% results on how Arutimol can affect lactation and pregnancy. However, during the research it was noted that the active substance can penetrate the placenta. Prescribing the drug during pregnancy is possible, however, when the benefit exceeds the harm to the fetus. In extreme cases, the remedy can be prescribed 2-3 weeks before delivery, during the period of treatment careful monitoring of the patient is necessary, since it is possible to develop unwanted effects in the child.
Arutimol is able to penetrate into breast milk, so before treatment should abolish breastfeeding.
Interaction of Arutimol with other medications
When using drops that include epinephrine, the patients had a dilated pupil.
The action of Arutimol is enhanced by the simultaneous administration of drops containing adrenaline and pilocarpine.
When using drops and agents for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, there may be an increase in side effects.
Arutimol can enhance the action of insulin and diabetes remedies. Therefore, careful monitoring of glucose during the treatment period is necessary.

Overdose is possible when taking drops at doses much higher than recommended. There may be such effects:
