The active ingredient is timolol.
Additional components: water for injection, benzalkonium chloride, (K30).
The drug Arutimol contains the main active ingredient - timolol. It is used to reduce intraocular pressure in various diseases of an ophthalmologic nature. The drug is able to reduce pressure in patients with both elevated and with normal pressure indicators.
The action of the drug due to the fact that Arutimol reduces the amount of sodium ions in the intraocular fluid itself, which leads to a decrease in pressure.
When using the drug, there was no change in vision or an increase in pupil. Even with prolonged use, drops do not affect the sensitivity of the retina.
The tool is only partially absorbed into the bloodstream, and the therapeutic effect can be observed after 15-25 minutes. The maximum effect is achieved after 2.5 and last for about a day.
For the strongest therapeutic effect, it is recommended to take a 0.5% solution.
Indications for use
This drug is prescribed to reduce intraocular pressure, and in the following diseases for the same purpose:
- secondary glaucoma;
- open-angle glaucoma;
- other types of glaucoma;
- other ophthalmologic diseases where symptoms are elevated intraocular pressure.
Mode of application
The drug is prescribed depending on the type of the disease and its complexity. Standard dosage: 1 drop 2 times a day.
At the very beginning of the treatment, 0.25% drops are prescribed, if the therapeutic effect is not observed or very little, then 0.5% is transferred to the drug. When the desired effect has been achieved, the dose is reduced to 1 drop 1 time per day.
The course of treatment with Arutimol is long, it is established by the attending physician.
If the medication was missed, then you should not double the dose.
Before using it is necessary to turn the cap clockwise until the end, then, to make sure that an opening is formed in the dropper, now the drug is ready for use.

On the part of the central nervous system when taking a large dose: drowsiness, fatigue, headaches, sometimes dizziness or nausea.
It is not recommended to prescribe the drug to children younger than 16 years, as the risk of side effects is much higher than in children 16-18 years.
Allergic reactions may also develop in the form of a rash or itching.
If you find one of the side effects, you should cancel the drug and contact your doctor.
The drug should not be prescribed in the following cases:
- allergies to one of the components of the drug;
- bronchial asthma;
- acute respiratory diseases;
- allergic rhinitis;
- eye socket damage;
- not prescribed to patients with acute heart disease, diabetes and pulmonary insufficiency;
- Caution should be prescribed to patients with elevated levels of thyroid hormones.
Pregnancy and lactation
There are currently no 100% results regarding how Arutymol can affect lactation and gestation period. However, during the research it was noted that the active substance can penetrate the placenta. It is possible to prescribe a drug during pregnancy, however, when the benefits exceed the harm to the fetus. In extreme cases, the agent can be prescribed 2-3 weeks before delivery, during the period of treatment, careful monitoring of the patient is necessary, since undesirable effects may develop in the child.
Arutymol is able to penetrate into breast milk, so breastfeeding should be abolished before treatment.
The interaction of Arutimol with other drugs
When using drops, which include adrenaline, the patients had dilated pupils.
The effect of Arutimol is enhanced while taking drops containing adrenaline and pilocarpine.
When using drops and drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, side effects may increase.
Arutimol may enhance the effects of insulin and diabetes medications. Therefore, careful control of glucose during treatment is necessary.
Arutymol may enhance the therapeutic effect of drugs aimed at relaxing skeletal muscles (in osteochondrosis and other diseases of the spine).
Before the operation, where the anesthesia will be used, the patient should refuse to take the drops for at least 2 days.
Overdose is possible, when taking drops in doses significantly higher than recommended. Such effects may occur:
- headache and dizziness;
- difficulty breathing, shortness of breath;
