Arifon user's manual

The drug Arifon is a diuretic. The main active substance is indapamide.

Indapamide is derived from sulfanylurea and is a diuretic. The main application is the treatment of high blood pressure (arterial hypertension). The drug has a fairly gentle effect, does not affect the volume of diuresis, but at the same time, lowers blood pressure. It acts on the vessels and tissue of the kidneys, stimulates a significant formation of vasodilators (relaxation of smooth muscles in the walls of blood vessels). Due to this, in addition to reducing blood pressure, you can observe a decrease in the load on the cardiovascular system.

Indapamide helps increase the secretion of chlorine and potassium in the urine, so the volume of the liquid increases significantly. The therapeutic effect will be noticeable even at doses that do not significantly increase the frequency of urination. The positive effect of Arifone can also be observed in patients on hemodialysis. The drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Effective action of the drug can be observed during the first day. The half-life of the drug occurs in 16-20 hours. With urine, about 65-70% is excreted, the rest with feces.

Indications for use

The drug Arifon is designed to treat arterial hypertension (high blood pressure).

Pregnancy, lactation

Appoint Arifon during pregnancy is contraindicated. It can adversely affect the condition of the placenta, and as a result cause a violation of the fetal nutrition.

Interaction of Arifone and other medications

The combination of Arifone with NSAIDs and high doses of salicylates leads to a decrease in the hypotensive effect of indapamide, therefore, the combined use of these agents is undesirable.

In patients with dehydration, there is a risk of developing acute renal failure.

The combined administration of indapamide and lithium-based drugs leads to an increased content of the latter in blood plasma, against which an overdose of lithium-containing drugs may occur. Joint reception is possible, with mandatory control of the level of lithium in the blood.

The combination of Arifone with funds that increase intestinal peristalsis: laxatives, amphotericin and glucocorticoids leads to the development of hypokalemia. When using these drugs, laboratory monitoring of the level of calcium in the blood plasma is necessary.

The combined administration of indapamide with potassium-sparing diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene) in patients with a history of diabetes mellitus or kidney failure leads to the development of hyperkalemia.

In patients with signs of dehydration, the combined use of Arifone with angiotensin-converting factor inhibitors leads to renal failure with hyponatremia) and a sudden drop in blood pressure.

When switching from an arifone to an ACE inhibitor, you must stop taking diuretics 3 days before the start of the treatment.

Indapamide is not prescribed together with cardiac glycosides because of the high toxicity of the latter.

The combination of indapamide with metformin can lead to the occurrence of lactic acidosis in the presence of renal failure.

Arifon is not desirable to combine with the use of erythromycin, beprinid, quinidine, sultopride, astemizole, pentamidine, halofantrinosome, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, terfenadine, brethylium, vinamine, amiodarone, combined treatment can provoke the development of bidirectional ventricular tachycardia.

Against the background of taking indapamide, it is not recommended to inject X-ray contrast substances because of the increased risk of developing kidney failure.

Simultaneous intake of calcium salts can lead to hypercalcemia.

An increase in the hypotensive effect of Arifone provokes the use of neuroleptics and tricyclic antidepressants, which leads to the appearance of orthostatic hypotension.

Simultaneous reception with cyclosporine leads to an increased content of creatinine in the blood plasma.

Estrogen-containing drugs are able to hold water in the body, this violates the hypotensive effect of Arifone, these drugs are incompatible.

Overdose

Arifon can have a toxic effect when taking a dose that will exceed the recommended 25-fold.

Symptoms of overdose:

  • drowsiness;
  • Dizziness, loss of consciousness;
  • nausea;
  • Vomiting;
  • Violation of water balance.

The treatment regimen will depend on the manifested symptoms, therapeutic measures are carried out in a hospital.

If there is a risk of disturbance of the electro-electrolyte balance in the patient, during the treatment period it is necessary to monitor the level of PH, electrolytes and uric acid.

Be wary appoint patients with heart and liver disease, since the drug can provoke complications. In rare cases, there may be a lupus erythematosus.

It is not recommended to appoint patients with diabetes mellitus and renal insufficiency. Arifon can lead to impaired renal function.

It is important to note that the drug may give false indications during doping control, in athletes.
