Arifon instructions for use

The drug Arifon is a diuretic. The main active ingredient is indapamide.

Indapamide is derived from sulfonylurea and is a diuretic. The main use is the treatment of high blood pressure (arterial hypertension). The drug has a rather sparing effect, does not affect the volume of diuresis, but at the same time, reduces blood pressure. It acts on the vessels and tissue of the kidneys, stimulates a significant formation of vasodilators (relaxation of smooth muscles in the walls of blood vessels). Due to this, in addition to reducing blood pressure, you can observe a decrease in the load on the cardiovascular system.

Indapamide helps increase the excretion of chlorine and potassium in the urine, so the volume of fluid increases significantly. The therapeutic effect will be noticeable even at doses that do not significantly increase the frequency of urination. The positive effect of Arifon can be observed in patients on hemodialysis. The drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The effective effect of the drug can be observed during the first day. The half-life of the drug occurs after 16-20 hours. About 65-70% are excreted in the urine, the rest is excreted.

Dosage and administration

Arifon needs to be taken in the morning, on 1 tablet inside, washing down with a small amount of water. With an increase in the dose of the agent, an increase in pressure is not observed, but the frequency and volume of diuresis increase.

The interaction of Arifon and other drugs

The combination of Arifon with NSAIDs and high doses of salicylates leads to a decrease in the hypotensive effect of indapamide, therefore, the complex use of these drugs is undesirable.

Patients with dehydration are at risk of developing acute renal failure.

The combined use of indapamide and lithium-based agents leads to an increased content of the latter in the blood plasma, against the background of which an overdose of lithium-containing drugs may occur. Joint reception is possible, with the obligatory control of the level of lithium in the blood.

The combination of Arifon with intestinal motility enhancers: laxatives, amphotericin and glucocorticoids leads to the development of hypokalemia. When using these drugs requires laboratory monitoring of plasma calcium levels.

Combined administration of indapamide with potassium-sparing diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene) in patients with a history of diabetes mellitus or renal failure leads to the development of hyperkalemia.

In patients with signs of dehydration, combined use of Arifon with angiotensin-converting factor inhibitors results in renal failure against the background of hyponatremia) and a sudden drop in blood pressure.

When switching from arifon to ACE inhibitors, it is necessary to stop taking diuretics 3 days before the start of the intended treatment.

Indapamide is not prescribed together with cardiac glycosides due to the high toxicity of the latter.

Combined intake of indapamide with metformin may cause lactic acidosis in the presence of renal failure.

It is not advisable to combine Arifon with taking erythromycin, bepridil, quinidine, sultoprid, astemizole, pentamidine, halofantrinosome, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, terfenadine, bretilium, vincamine, amiodarone, combined administration may provoke the development of bi-directional ventricular tachyternum, vincamin, amiodarone, combined administration may provoke the development of bi-directional ventricular tachyternum, vincamin, amiodarone;

When taking indapamide, it is not recommended to inject radiopaque substances due to an increased risk of developing renal failure.

Simultaneous intake of calcium salts may cause hypercalcemia.

An increase in the antihypertensive effect of Arifon provokes the administration of neuroleptics and tricyclic antidepressants, which leads to the occurrence of orthostatic hypotension.

Simultaneous administration with cyclosporine leads to an elevated creatinine content in the blood plasma.

Estrogen-containing agents are able to retain water in the body, this violates the hypotensive effect of Arifon, these drugs are incompatible.

Arifon may have a toxic effect when taking a dose that will exceed the recommended 25 times.

Symptoms of overdose:

  • drowsiness;
  • dizziness, loss of consciousness;
  • nausea;
  • vomiting;
  • water balance disturbance.

The treatment regimen will depend on the symptoms shown, therapeutic measures are carried out in the hospital.
