Almagel T pills - a drug that belongs to the group of antacid substances and is used in gastroenterology for the prevention and treatment of many diseases. The active ingredients of the drug neutralize the adverse effects of hydrochloric acid on the mucous membranes of the stomach and duodenum.

The composition of the drug and the release form

The drug Almagel T is available in the form of tablets with a dosage of 500 mg in blisters and carton. The tablets are coated, have white color and horizontal notch on one side.

The main active ingredients of a single tablet are aluminum compounds and magaldrate, as well as auxiliary components - magnesium stearate, microcellulose, sorbitol.

Pharmacological properties of the drug

Almagel T tablets have a pronounced antacid property, that is, they neutralize the aggressive effects of hydrochloric acid and bile on the mucous membranes of the organs of the alimentary canal. Getting into the gastric tract tablet when dissolved forms a protective film that covers the mucous membranes and does not allow hydrochloric acid and enzymes to irritate and destroy them.

Indications for use

Almagel T tablets are prescribed for the following therapeutic and prophylactic purposes:

  • Reflux disease - this condition is caused by throwing the contents of the stomach into the esophagus as a result of the weakening of the upper sphincter of the stomach;
  • Increased secretion of hydrochloric acid;
  • Inflammatory processes of the gastric mucosa of the chronic course during the acute phase;
  • Condition after food poisoning in order to protect the mucous membranes and spasm of the digestive tract;
  • Dyspepsia of different origin;
  • Peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum due to the influence of low-quality food or drugs, in particular acetylsalicylic acid on the mucous membranes;
  • Symptomatic treatment of heartburn, belching and burning in the epigastric region, resulting from the abuse of vinegar, bitter pepper, spices or hot spices;
  • Abuse of coffee, with the result that the patient has pain in the stomach.

Contraindications

Almagel T tablets have a number of contraindications to use:

  • Individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • Low acidity of the stomach;
  • Atony and putrefactive processes in the stomach and intestines, as a result of insufficient production of bile or other enzymes for the breakdown of food;
  • Acute or chronic renal failure;
  • Increased levels of aluminum and magnesium in the blood;
  • Children's age up to 12 years;
  • Low phosphorus content in the body.

Use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation

Almagel T tablets are not recommended for expectant mothers in the first trimester of pregnancy, since in these months there is a laying and formation of all organs and systems of the fetus. The use of any drugs can rudely violate this delicate process and lead to congenital deformities in a child or miscarriage in the early period.

The use of this drug in the second half of pregnancy is possible only if prescribed by specialists, provided that the benefit to the woman will be much higher than the possible negative consequences for the fetus and the further course of the pregnancy.

The use of tablets Almagel T in the period of breastfeeding is possible only under the supervision of a specialist.

Dosage and administration

The dosage of the drug and the duration of the course of treatment is determined by the doctor on an individual basis for each individual patient.

Tablets are taken orally one hour before meals, without chewing. The drug is washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid.

For therapeutic purposes, gastritis and gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer medication taken 1 tablet three times a day. With severe pain in the epigastric region, accompanied by belching and heartburn, the indicated dose can be increased, but not more than 5 tablets per day!

During the period of treatment with Almagel, the use of alcoholic drinks and coffee is not recommended, as they lead to a decrease in the therapeutic effect of the drug.

The simultaneous use of Almagel T tablets with indomethacin, tetracyclines, macrolides, psychotropic drugs, iron preparations can be observed their reduced absorption and insufficient therapeutic effect.
