Actovegin injections instructions for use

The components of Actovegin's solution are physiological, therefore, it is not possible to study their pharmacokinetics after ingestion into the body. Actovegin performs its action by increasing energy metabolism. It accelerates the utilization of oxygen and thus increases the resistance to oxygen starvation in the tissues of the human body.

Release form and composition

The active component of the drug is deproteinized calf-blood hemoderivate at a dosage of 40 mg per milliliter of solution. The injection form of Actovegin is produced in ampoules of different volume and dosage:

  • 400 mg solution, in a package of 5 ampoules of 10 ml each;
  • 200 mg solution, in a package of 5 ampoules of 5 ml each;
  • solution of 80 mg, in a package of 25 ampoules of 2 ml.

Ampoules are in a plastic container. Secondary packaging is made of cardboard. It contains information about the production series and expiration date. Inside the carton, in addition to the container with ampoules, is also a detailed instruction. The color of the solution is yellowish with various shades depending on the series of release. The color intensity does not affect the sensitivity to the drug and its effectiveness.

Indications for use

Actovegin can be prescribed for many painful conditions. Its use is justified in such diseases:

  • therapy of hemorrhagic stroke and residual effects after it;
  • encephalopathy, having a different origin;
  • failures observed in venous, peripheral or arterial blood;
  • ischemic stroke;
  • various head injuries;
  • angiopathy, especially of diabetic origin;
  • radiation, thermal, solar, chemical burns up to 3 degrees;
  • diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy;
  • trophic damage;
  • wounds of various origins that are difficult to treat;
  • ulcerative skin lesions;
  • occurring bedsores;
  • damage to the mucous membranes and skin, triggered by radiation damage;
  • radiation neuropathy.


Since Actovegin is considered to be a physiological drug, hypersensitivity reactions are the only contraindication.

Dosing and Administration

For the intravenous route of administration, Actovegin may be administered by drip or stream. Before the introduction of a vein, you need to dissolve the drug in a solution of sodium chloride 0.9% physiological or 5% glucose solution. The permitted final dose of Actovegin is up to 2000 mg of dry matter per 250 ml of solution.

For the introduction of / Actovegin should be used in dosage from 5 to 20 ml per day.

The dose for intramuscular injection may not exceed 5 ml per 24 hours. In this case, the introduction is slow.

After assessing the patient's condition, the required dose is selected. The recommended dosage at the beginning of therapy is 5 - 10 ml i.p. or v / v. In the following days, intravenously in 5 ml or intramuscularly daily or several times over a 7 day period. Intramuscular injections are performed slowly.

In case of a severe condition of the patient, the prescription of Actovegin is recommended intravenously in the drip method at a dose of 20 to 50 ml per day for several days until the condition improves.

In cases of exacerbations of various chronic conditions and in diseases characterized by moderate severity, Actovegin should be administered intramuscularly or intravenously in a 5-20 ml course with a course of 14 to 17 days. Selection of dosage is carried out only by a doctor!

If necessary, a planned course of therapy can be administered at a dosage of 2 to 5 ml per 24 hours by the route of administration to a muscle or vein in a course of 4 to 6 weeks.

The multiplicity of the introduction should be from 1 to 3 times. This amount varies depending on the initial condition of the patient.

When treating patients with diabetic polyneuropathy, it is better to begin the use of Actovegin with intravenous administration. The dosage in this case is 2 g per day, the course of treatment is 21 days. In the future, it is desirable to switch to a tablet form with a daily dose of 2 to 3 tablets for 24 hours. The course of taking in this way is about 4 months.

Side effects

According to numerous studies, Actovegin injections are well tolerated by patients. Rarely, anaphylactic reactions, allergic manifestations, and anaphylactic shock can occur. Sometimes such side effects may appear:

  • soreness at the injection site or redness of the skin;
  • pain in the head. Sometimes they can be accompanied by a feeling of dizziness, general weakness in the body, the appearance of a shiver;
  • loss of consciousness;
  • dyspeptic manifestations: vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea;

  • difficulty in swallowing;
  • sore throat;
  • pressure sensations in the chest;
  • heartache;
  • temperature increase;
  • intensifying the process of sweating.

Actovegin solution is considered hypertonic, therefore intramuscular administration should not exceed 5 ml.

There is a risk of anaphylactic shock. To minimize it, we recommend preliminary testing for Actovegin's perception by the body of each particular patient. For this, a sample of 2 ml of the solution is administered intramuscularly, with further observation of general and local reactions.

The injection form of Actovegin is compatible with isotonic solutions of glucose or sodium chloride. In addition to the above combinations, Actovegin should not be mixed with other medicines in the form of a solution.

When carrying a pregnancy and lactation period Actovegin solution can be used only for health reasons.

In pediatric practice, Actovegin is not prescribed injections.
