Dosage and administration
Acyclovir tablets are taken orally during a meal or immediately after a meal. The drug is recommended to drink enough liquid. The dosage of the drug and the duration of the course of therapy are determined by the doctor on the basis of blood tests and the clinical picture of the disease.
In case of herpetic lesions with a severe course for the treatment of adults, Acyclovir tablets are prescribed 200 mg 4-5 times a day at regular intervals. The course of treatment should not exceed 10 days. If there is no improvement over this time, the patient should again consult a doctor in order to clarify the diagnosis and adequacy of therapy.
During the period of treatment with this drug should ensure adequate fluid intake in the body. This is due to the fact that acyclovir can precipitate and settle in the tubules of the kidneys, which leads to disruption of the urinary organs and renal failure, in severe cases. The drug is prescribed with caution for the treatment of patients with impaired renal function or severe neurological pathologies.
Patients suffering from impaired liver function and electrolyte balance, this drug is prescribed in the minimum effective dosages and under the strict supervision of a physician.
The drug is not prescribed for the treatment of chicken pox in children, if the disease is mild.
This drug is not used to treat children under the age of 3 years. With extreme caution, medication is prescribed for elderly people.
The interaction of acyclovir with other drugs
With the simultaneous use of drugs based on Acyclovir with immunomodulators, their therapeutic effect is enhanced.
With the simultaneous use of the drug against herpes with antibiotics of the tetracycline group, macrolides and cephalosporins, the risk of side effects from the urinary organs increases. This should be taken into account and this drug should be used with caution along with antibiotics.
